'Monty Halls & Co | Pilot Event Royal Marines Iron-Distance Extreme Triathlon | Marathon Briefing'

'Dear friends The route briefings below are for this year’s participants, and for those expressing interest in next year’s open event. We are under SD guidelines for this year’s pilot Iron-distance challenge, open to a select lucky few. Start preparing for the open 2021 event! Places will be limited and demand will far exceed supply. This year’s test charity event is a full iron-distance event but closed – “private” – for select unsupported, proven endurance athletes. 3,800m swim / 180km bicycle / 42.2km marathon / 3,500m vertical. This one will truly deserve the title “Extreme Iron-Distance Triathlon”. It’s the terrain: on the bike 180km has 2500m vertical. That’s twice Ben Nevis! The Marathon has almost 1000m vertical. Then there’s stairs. Thousands of steep staircase steps. Then there’s ankle-breaking boulders, and ruts and roots and rocks. Then there’s rhythm breaking gates. Hundreds of kissing gates and nobody to kiss. Epic views take away the tiredness. Occasionally. Several world-class athletes and world record holders are taking part; the majority of this year’s elite few are serving or past members of our armed forces. I feel utterly stoked, both privileged and delighted to support this amazing project. We first visited friends in Dartmouth with our young kids in the early 90s. The first morning early I ran the same coast path as this marathon. I saw my first ever Devon seal close up, and in that instant began the love of Devon. The next day I rode to Start Point and Kingsbridge. The hills were steep! Later we took the kids to Mattiscombe Sands and fell in love with the rugged cliffs of Start Point. The decision to move to Devon and start our fitness centre was born that day. For the past 25 years I have dreamed of an iron triathlon on this landscape. It’s life affirming when long-held dreams come true. Please give to this incredible cause. Our athletes’ epic endeavour is all towards helping those that put their lives on the line and were gravely injured on our behalf. https://www.justgiving.com/team/TeamMarinesIron xRory Marathon Route Briefing : https://youtu.be/5ttkth2AykY Motorbike hyperloop Cycle Briefing : https://youtu.be/bZSIWQJi4Bs'
